Eduardo Mateo is the Chief Strategy Officer of the Submarine Network Division at NEC, Tokyo. He leads technology strategy and network architecture activities since 2012.
Prior to that, he held a research and development role at NEC Labs America in Princeton, NJ, where he conducted pioneering research in the field of optical communications. Dr. Eduardo Mateo has led major technological advancements in the submarine cable industry, including the development of the world's first open-cable, the first 0.5 Petabit system, and the first multi-core fiber system. As part of the subsea telecommunications industry, he has collaborated closely with subsea industry leaders worldwide, including the consolidation of submarine open-cable standards. Dr. Mateo has authored or co-authored over 120 papers and patents in the fields of optical communications and subsea-networks technologies, including a book chapter on subsea fiber optic networks. He is an executive Committee member of the SubOptic organization and a member of ITU-T The International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience.
