Luis Matias finished his PhD in 1996 in Physics (Geophysics) at the Lisbon University. He is since 2015 Associate Professor in the Geographic Engineering, Geophysics and Energy Department of FCUL. The research activity has been conducted at the Instituto Dom Luiz, Associate Laboratory. The main research areas include Seismology, Seismotectonics and Marine Geophysics. The most recent scientific publications address a diversity of topics, such as the seismic and tsunami hazard of Portugal mainland, the structure of the crust and upper mantle, the use of OBS recordings to investigate fin whales, the use of submarine cables for geophysical and biological applications.
