Mark Hinds, Photonic Systems Development, Ciena Canada

Mark graduated with a graduating with a B Sc EE 1984 and an M Sc EE 1989 from the University of Saskatchewan and has since been working in fiber optic transmission. He started his career with MPB Technologies working on the TAT-9 cable system project doing test, installation and maintenance, of both wet plant and including testing during installation and maintenance on cable ships. While at MPB Mark also worked as a designer and architect on the development of EDFA & transponder products for the un-repeatered submarine market.   Next at Nortel and later at Ciena, Mark worked as a hardware & system designer and an architect for several generations of photonic products, resulting in several associated patents and publications.  Mark then moved to work as an Advisor in Submarine Systems Applications: an early team member at the genesis of the submarine cable SLTE upgrade program, which has now grown into a market leading business.  Currently at Ciena, Mark continues to work on submarine applications activities in the R&D team focused on developing new products and software solutions to simulate, analyze and deploy Submarine solutions for a growing customer base.
