He received the Ph.D. degree in information science from Hokkaido University, in 2011.
Following a Research Fellowship with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science during 2009–2012, he joined Optical Communications R&D Laboratories, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., in 2012, where he has been engaged in research and development of low-loss optical fibers.
He received 2015 the Sakurai Memorial Prize from the OITDA of Japan, for the developement and commercialization of ultralow loss optical fiber for submarine cables.
